The Durban July is an annual horse racing event in our City – and a bumper weekend. People flock from all over the country to get all dressed up, strut their stuff and enjoy day at the races. Two years ago, we decided that rather than spend a small fortune on a race day ticket and spend all day on our feet at the race course, we would host our own Durban July party at home. A small and intimate function with our closest friends, dressed to the theme, bets on the horses and a good day out.
After a successful race day party in 2015 and again 2016, this year we had even more fun. Every year seems to get better and better… This year, we hired a barmen to mix our flavored gin and tonics, had a colorful flower frame photo booth and brought out the best party accessory – silent disco. For those that don’t know, silent disco involves each guest to wear head phones that are connected to a music source, via bluetooth. The music then plays through the headphones – when you take these off, there is no music to be heard but the funniest sounds of everyone singing… It is the best!
My best part of the day, the race day theme (and applicable to the dress code):
