Welcome to 2025, and welcome to my little blogging space on the internet.
I like to start a new year with a fresh new start – new planner, new goals, new to-do lists, new ideas, new dreams and in this space, a new introduction to anyone that may have found it for the first time. Each year, I find that my year starts closer to February than the beginning of January as I slowly find my feet once all the kiddies are back at school and we can feel a little more settled. And today felt like a good day for a new start – officially on the 20th January 2025!
So a little bit about me for any new faces…
I am a Durban girl, about to turn the big 4-0 this year, married to my university sweetheart, with five precious children (three girls in Grade 7, 5 and 2 and twin boys who are 2.5 years old in play school). We live a simple, coastal life close to the beach and in a sunny climate. We love being outdoors, traveling to the beach, the berg and the bush, spending time with family and friends and celebrating all the fun things in life. I am blessed to be a stay-at-home-mom to our ‘fab five’ and I spend my days in quiet time with Jesus, moving my body, planning and organising, hosting and celebrating, running our home, in my car all afternoon on the school run and watching sports and activities, and then cuddling my favourite man.
A few random facts about me:
- I am an English major, and I am the spelling and grammar police.
- I do not eat avocado or salmon.
- I don’t drink coffee, wine or champagne.
- I am super fussy with my tea – Five Roses, with skim milk and white sugar in a Maxwell Williams thin mug, only.
- I cannot sleep without an airconditioner or a fan – it’s the sound and the cool air.
- I absolutely love reading, and Romance or Psychological Thrillers are my genres.
- I was an only child for most of my life (I have a half sister who is 15 years younger than me and lived away from me), but I always dreamt of having a big family. Not quite five!
- Growing up, I wanted to be a mom and a teacher.
- I am a qualified Intermediate Phase teacher.
- Drama and English were my favourite subjects at school.
- Hockey and swimming were my favourite sports.
- I am not into designer gear but I love to shop for: pyjamas, swimwear and sneakers.
- I have a bad habit with Coca-Cola.
- I am an Enneagram Type 2.
- I find planning, organising and administration fun and therapeutic.
- I have been in hospital too many times to count in my life, and I married a man who has never slept in a hospital overnight.
- I live for Summer, the sun and water – a pool, a dam, the ocean…
- I feel like a million bucks when I have a tan, painted nails and a blow wave hair.
- I hate talking on the phone, and my phone is on silent most of the time.
- My love languages are quality time and gifts.
- I am a Leo and like a true lion taking care of it’s mane, I am never without a brush.
- I love watching sport – my kids sport, local sport, on TV and live. But never soccer.
- I have one fear: snakes!
- I turn FORTY this year, and I CANNOT WAIT!
If you have visited my blog and read this introduction post, I would love for you to say hi and introduce yourself in the comments. One of the best parts of blogging is the connection and networking from around the world.
Hello, and nice to βmeetβ you x
We are so similar! Love following you and your beautiful family and I cannot wait to see you plan your 40th bash.
Itβs also my 40th this year! How did that happen?! Also we are similar in many ways (avo and salmon – yuck) but I absolutely LOVE talking on the phone. I wish we lived more in the old days when phone calls trumped text messages. My friends know that I am their one friend who just calls for no reason but to have a chat π
Nice to meet you, friend π
You are the best Cals, wishing you the happiest 2025 π
Love you my Donns, we’re going to miss you so much this year! x
I loved reading this about you! I had to look up Five Roses and now will have to try it. I love tea!
