Brookdale Eating

02 April 2013| ,

Wow, what a couple of weeks it has been…
From a weeks detox at Brookdale Hydro, to a weeks teaching Grade 4’s to a long weekend in Cape Town. It’s been busy, busy, busy and NON STOP!

My first recap is about the delicious yet very healthy meals at Brookdale.
Brookdale follows the Nutrifit way of eating which is simply: 1200 calories for women and 1500 calories for men. There are 3 main meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner and 2 snacks: mid-morning and mid-afternoon. There is a great emphasis on portion size and chicken or fish is only served at lunch.

The benefits of following this programmer are:
  • Helps to keep blood sugar levels stable
  • Decreases the risk of cardio-vascular disease
  • Helps realise what portion size is all about
  • Reduces over-eating
  • Breaks the bad habits we enforce in daily life
  • Eliminates stimulants found in the external environment
  • A form of detox
  • May help reduce the risks of developing forms of cancer
  • Increases energy levels due to improving overall nutrient intake from the food

My week at Brookdale was a great detox (even included a good old detox headache) and a kick start to eating healthy and trying to lose weight again. I came home feeling refreshed, relaxed, detoxed and ready to go (a few kgs lighter!)
