After finding out we were having twins, we sat our three girls down and asked them how they would like to configure the bedrooms once the new baby brothers had arrived. We have four bedrooms upstairs in our home: a master bedroom, a second large bedroom with en-suite bathroom and twin bedrooms which share a joining bathroom. ZB stepped up and announced that the twins would share the one twin room, she would have the other twin room (because she didn’t want to share), and SJ and EN would share the big room because they were desperate to please get a new bunk bed. For the first year, this combo worked well until ZB decided she wanted in on the fun sleepover setup each night at the same time as SJ decided she wanted to be on her own, as the eldest sibling.

And that was it… and so far so good. Everyone loves their little happy space in their rooms.

When looking for a new bunk bed, we were stumped with finding one that suited our needs perfectly, as well as a big enough bed to fill the large room. We eventually decided on having a bunk bed custom made, with Kirst from Lindley & Co. Going the custom made route was easier and more affordable for us as we have quite specific requirements:

• We already had a mattress and linen for a queen size and 3/4 size bed.
• We wanted an additional pull out double bed that could slide under the bottom bed for extra guests and big sleepovers.
• We wanted a thin ladder on the side that didn’t take up a lot of space.
• We wanted to add our own fabric headboard for some colour and fun.

We couldn’t be happier with our new bunk beds, and the addition of our quirky banana wallpaper to transform the girls new room… on a budget!
