ZB 5th Birthday – Decor

23 February 2023|

I’ve been pretty behind on sharing posts from last year… but rather late than never!

A few weeks ago, we celebrated our precious ZB’s 5th birthday with a Horse/Cowgirl party. Not to be outdone by her big sisters, our little miss chose her theme almost straight after her birthday last year and stuck with the horse and pony theme for months… She begged for horses at her party and for a real life pony as her birthday gift! She sat with me choosing fun ideas, party packs and even her birthday cake. one VERY excited birthday cowgirl…

On the day however, she had other plans… She wanted none of it!

Haha, and this is where we learn to roll with the punches. Everything she had chosen: cowgirl boots – nope please take them off, cowgirl hat – nope not wearing it, cowgirl dress – no thanks, pony rides – once and she cried the whole way, pass the parcel – nope, pin the tail on the pony – nope! In fact, she didn’t even want to eat her sweet tray of treats either… She wanted to play in her bedroom, with one friend only.

Anyone who knows our poppet knows that she is never shy of a crowd or loud chaos and noise, she LOVES a party, a theme and getting involved but this just wasn’t her day. So after trying for half an hour, we gave up. We sang happy birthday, cut the cake and let her swim – and then she loved every moment and didn’t want anyone to leave…

As if that wasn’t enough for one day, one of our closest friends choked on a toothpick and it was a traumatic and frightening experience for everyone (and so grateful that he was and is okay!) and during the lighting of the cake candles, I burnt our big girl SJ’s hand with the lighter… For real!!

BUT in the end, everyone actually had a good time, we got some cute photos, everyone was alive and well – and it was a birthday we will never forget!
