It’s hard to believe that I married a man that isn’t a huge fan of parties, especially not his own. In sixteen years of being together, we have only ever had one birthday party for him – a surprise 30th birthday drinks which he cursed at me for because he hates surprises!
So turning forty was a non event for him, and it took me (and some close friends!) a good six months to convince him to have a party and enjoy celebrating himself and his forty years. And I am so glad we did – and so is he!
Lat month, we hosted a casual drinks and snacks get together in our garden and MC invited all his nearest and dearest friends, family and colleagues. We had strict instructions to have no formal speeches or happy birthday song but I managed to put together a very special slideshow of 40 years of his life and special messages from family and best friends who couldn’t be there, and the sweetest speeches from myself and his three girls. A memory he will cherish forever.
After two years of very limited social events and no big disco parties – it was such fun to get all dressed up, even wear heels, let our hair down and dance the night away. Even a midnight storm and downpour didn’t get us off the dance floor.
