Book Review: 28 Summers

14 October 2020|

Title: 28 Summers

Author: Elin Hilderbrand

Genre: Romantic Fiction

Main Characters:

  • Mallory – lead female
  • Link – Mallory’s son
  • Jake – lead male
  • Ursual – Jake’s wife

Summary:

Their secret love affair has lasted for decades – but this could be the summer that changes everything.

When Mallory Blessing’s son, Link, receives deathbed instructions from his mother to call a number on a slip of paper in her desk drawer, he’s not sure what to expect. But he certainly does not expect Jake McCloud to answer. It’s the late spring of 2020 and Jake’s wife, Ursula DeGournsey, is the frontrunner in the upcoming presidential election.

There must be a mistake, Link thinks. How do Mallory and Jake know each other?

Flash back to the sweet summer of 1993: Mallory has just inherited a beachfront cottage on Nantucket from her aunt, and she agrees to hots her brother’s bachelor party. Cooper’s friend from college, Jake McCloud, attends, and Jake and Mallory form a bond that will persevere – through marriage, children, and Ursula’s stratospheric political rise – until Mallory learns she’s dying.

Verdict:

Can I just move to Nantucket now?? I love Elin’s books and I may have had one too many dreams of hot summers in this beach town. I am also a hopeless romantic so a book like this just swallowed me up – all the heart eyes and all the tears. Don’t get me wrong, I do not agree with extra-marital love affairs of any kind and I hate to make any exceptions but this is just a book, so I totally can… This one is different. This is true love. This is heart and gut wrenching love. And I am all for that. I loved it.

Have you read it? What did you think?
