Book Review: The Pact

20 March 2020|

Title: The Pact

Author: Amy Heydenrych

Genre: Thriller

Main Characters:

  • Freya – lead female
  • Jay – her new boyfriend and colleague
  • Nicole – victim and colleague

Summary:

What if a prank leads to murder?

Whe Freya arrives at her dream job with the city’s hottest start-up, she can’t wait to begin a new and exciting life, including dating her new colleague Jay. However, Nicole, Jay’s ex and fellow employee, seems intent on making her life a misery.

After a big deadline, where Nicole continually picks on her, Freya snaps and tells Jay about the bullying and together they concoct a revenge prank. The next morning, Nicole is found dead in her apartment…

Is this just a prank gone wrong? Or does Freya know someone who is capable of murder – and could she be next?

Verdict:

Amy’s previous bestseller, Shame On You was one of the most eye-opening books I have read, about the dangers of social media. I loved it and I hated it at the same time. I was so excited to read The Pact, and literally couldn’t put it down – I finished it in a day! The plot twist kept guessing, right up until the very last chapter. So many women can relate to this book and its key themes: being ridiculed by the “mean girl”, anxiety over a new job, the #metoo campaign and sexual harassment and so much more. It will really play on some deep emotions.

Have you read The Pact or Shame on You? What did you think?

Any other good book recommendations whilst we self-isolate and enjoy more time in a good book?
