First Day of School 2017

17 January 2017.

First day of school for our girls.

On Tuesday, our girls went back to school for the new year (South African schools start a new school year in January). Our little SJ has started Grade 00 and EN has finally joined the same school in their Playgroup. These sweet sisters are so excited to be at the same school and these parents are even more excited that now there is only one school drop off in the mornings and pick up in the afternoons – and so close to home!

We were a little nervous for EN as this is a new school, new classroom and new teacher and no familiar friends faces. But she walked into school (after a tantrum in the car!) with her bag on her back, greeted her headmistress and straight into her classroom to give her new teacher a big hug. She put her bags away, have her teacher her gift and started playing with her new toys. A very proud Mommy & Daddy walked away with the biggest kisses and happy heart.

SJ has been counting down the days to school starting – she is one conscientious and confident little girl who loves school, being with her friends, structure and routine and being the teachers pet. She couldn’t wait to see her new classroom, new locker, friends after the long holidays and her new teacher (who she begged for last year!). A quick goodbye and another little daughter who was happy to kiss and wave us goodbye.

We are so grateful for the confidence and independence that our girls showed yesterday and that they feel so comfortable and at home in their school environment. We have been blessed with the most lovely pre-school, beautiful classrooms, attentive and involved headmistress and loving and caring teachers.

Here’s hoping it’s a happy year for them.

How did your kids and family cope with the first week back?
